Erin Edson (Director of Operations)


Erin Edson, born and raised in Buffalo, has been involved in the area of sports and coaching for most of her life. Growing up she played many sports including Lacrosse, Field Hockey, Ice Hockey and Soccer. Throughout high school and college she coached multiple lacrosse camps, clinics and local club teams. She attended Fredonia State University, and has her Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management with Minors in Athletic Coaching and Business Administration. While at Fredonia, she competed on their Division III Women’s Lacrosse Team for all 4 years. She then attended Daemen College and earned her Masters Degree in Executive Leadership and Change. While at Daemen, she worked as a Graduate Assistant in their Division II Athletic Department. She has over 8 years of administrative experience in the health care, higher education and athletic settings. 

Erin joined the Dr. Derek Health and Fitness team in 2020. Her focus is client correspondence, office/facility management and database oversight. 

She enjoys staying active, cooking and spending time with her family and friends!

Ryan Waltenbaugh (Head Trainer)


Ryan Waltenbaugh born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He moved to Buffalo 8 years ago and graduated from Orchard Park High School. He attended the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford where he earned his degree in Exercise Science and has his certification as a Certified Personal Trainer. 

His passions include fitness and exercise, hiking, and watching the Buffalo Bills.

Chris Elminowski (Trainer)



Chris has always lived an active life playing multiple sports and doing martial arts from a young age. He started learning the science of fitness in 2009 while enrolled in a Certified Personal Trainer course through high school. After getting an Associates degree with a focus on Exercise Science and an ACE Certified Personal Trainer Certification, he started working one-on-one and with small groups in 2015.

Since then, he has obtained many certifications including: TRX Suspension Trainer Certification, StrongFirst Kettlebell Instructor Certification, ACE Sports Performance Coach Certified, ACE Fitness Nutrition, GlobalFitness Neuro-Muscular Rang Of Motion Certification, DotFit Supplementation & Nutrition Coach, and am currently working on obtaining a Box N’ Burn Boxing Instructor Certification.

Chris loves the science of true individual programming and helping clients develop in every area of fitness to achieve the quality of life we all strive for. He believes anybody can do anything with the right plan, dedication, and support and it is his true passion to help other grow to their maximum potential.

Carl Neuman (Trainer)


Carl Neuman has been involved in the health and fitness field since 2003. Carl studied Physical Education at Niagara County Community College and has been a Personal Fitness Trainer since 2009. He also managed a Vitamin Shoppe for over 8 years and gained knowledge in nutrition and supplementation. 

Carl loves to workout, golf and spend time with his family. He is a huge Buffalo Bills fan and can talk about football all day. 

His passion for learning and helping others achieve their health and fitness goals has made him a key member of Dr. Derek’s team since 2014.

Matt Henechowicz (Trainer)


Matthew Henechowicz was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from The University of Rhode Island. While attending university he was a member of the triathlon team that competed in the University Multisport Series. Upon graduating with scholastic distinction, Matt learned his true area of expertise is in the domain of exercise science in the aging population. Matt is involved with many charitable foundations and spends hours of volunteer service in the local community. Prioritizing and managing time efficiently has been pivotal in allowing him to improve his client’s quality of life and well-being, while personally maintaining a high level of fitness. 

Although Matt has diverse interests one of his most rewarding pastimes was as a competitive snowboarder. Traveling across Canada to Whistler/Blackcomb, British Columbia, was the culmination of many years of training. His time there led to many successes and many more valuable learning experiences. During this experience, Matt obtained employment as a snowboard instructor, SPIN instructor and triathlon coach, and continues teaching today. 

In 2018, Matt moved to Buffalo and began employment at Dr. Derek Health and fitness in 2019. His hobbies include reading, golf, hockey, and strength training.

Colm Cooper (Trainer)


Colm Cooper was born and raised in Medina, New York.  Through his mother’s Irish roots and Medina’s tight knit community, he developed a passion for soccer that still burns red-hot to this day.  At Medina High he competed in track and soccer, where he earned sectional titles and all-league honors.  Through soccer, Colm developed a competitive streak which led to an interest in maximizing his athleticism and later healing injuries.  He has continued on this journey and now finds himself at the University at Buffalo, where he is studying Exercise Science.  Colm’s long term interest is to practice physical therapy – a place where he can combine his passion for movement and exercise with his holistic approach to health and wellness.  He is interested in using his degree and experience with exercise to help others on their journey to creating their best self.  Down the road, he will be transferring these skills to the physical therapy world, where he hopes to help people feel and move better.

Colm loves moving.  If you can’t find him on the soccer field, you might find him at the gym practicing olympic weightlifting, running around Chestnut Ridge Park, cycling to Ithaca, or hiking up Mount Brandon.  And when the ground is frozen, you’ll probably see him shredding down the slopes in Ellicottville.  

Beware, Colm might be the biggest football fan in the world, so if you get him started on Liverpool F.C. or the Premier League, you’ll have to listen to him for hours. 

Laura (Trainer)


Laura Toth was born and raised in Amherst, New York. With a strong passion for wellness, exercise and helping other, she pursued an education in Physical therapy and will be receiving her Doctor of Physical Therapy this Spring from Daemen college. Laura has experience working with many clients of all ages with varying cardiac, neurologic, and musculoskeletal pathology. When she finishes her doctorate degree in May, she plans to pursue her long-term goal of being a pediatric physical therapist, while continuing to improve the quality of life and health of her adult clients through personal training. 

Laura views exercise as a great way to relieve stress and increase energy levels. When it comes to her personal life, she loves hiking, yoga, and kayaking.

Nathan (Trainer)


Nathan took an unconventional route to find his way into the fitness industry. Being the first in his family to attend college, he didn’t quite know what he wanted to major in but had it set in his mind that he would obtain a degree. It wasn’t until he attended an open house at NCCC that he would meet his future advisor, instructor, and mentor who would lead him into becoming the fitness professional he is today. 

Equipped with nearly a decade of experience and several certifications to boot, involving kettlebell training, nutrition, functional fitness and corrective exercise, leadership, and instructing boot camps. The root of his efforts goes to serve others by guiding them on their path to living a healthier, more intentional life and as a result unearths his passion to help people. Additionally Nathan has a passion for education, self development, as well as health and wellness. Throughout his tenure in the industry Nathan has found his niche in the realm of weight loss and enjoys working with others who need that extra accountability and someone to believe in their ability to achieve. Oftentimes light hearted and kind, clients feel safe, secure and connected when under his provision.

When it comes to his personal life, his current interests are boxing, pool (8-ball), chess, reading, cooking and listening to music and of course, weightlifting.
