CARB CRAVINGS

What are carbohydrates?Carbohydrates, or carbs, are sugar moleculesImagine carbs as something really tempting but not so good for us when we have too much. Trying to eat fewer carbs isn’t just about changing what we eat. It’s about changing how our bodies use energy. At first, cutting down on carbs can feel like you’re battling an addiction. That craving for a sweet snack before bed or a sugary drink in the morning is something millions of people deal with. But changing the way your body handles sugar and how sensitive it is to insulin takes time, effort, and patience.
When you keep picking healthy foods over sugary or processed ones, something cool happens.Your body starts to get used to it.Your hunger starts to feel more normal, you start to like healthier foods more, and it gets easier to keep up with this new way of eating. But cravings for carbs can come from many places.Eating too much junk food can make your brain want more sugar because it makes you feel good. Also, when your blood sugar goes up and down a lot, it can make you want sugary foods even more.Hormones that control hunger can also make it harder to feel full, making you want to eat more. And sometimes, just seeing certain foods or it being a certain time of day can make you crave carbs. So, what can you do about it?
One idea is to try a ketogenic diet, which changes how your body uses energy and can help keep your blood sugar stable. This diet might make you feel more full and less hungry.Even if you don’t stick with it forever, it can be a useful way to break the cycle of craving carbs.I like to remind my clients that the Ketogenic Diet is like doing calculus.  It works dramatically and it’s healthy, but you first have to be good at math – otherwise, you won’t be successful.Another way is to stay away from foods that make your blood sugar spike and keep wanting sweet foods.Making sure you eat enough protein and get the right nutrients can also help you feel more satisfied and snack less.
My clients are generally 45 to 80 years of age. They want to lose weight, drop body fat, reduce or eliminate medications, live better and longer.I think a pure Keto Diet is extremely difficult and somewhat unnecessary. So I do not teach my clients to eliminate carbs entirely. However, all carbs are not equal! The carbohydrate selections matter a lot.I teach eating carbs that are under 40GI.
Getting enough sleep is super important, too.Not sleeping enough can make you hungrier and less able to resist unhealthy foods.Keeping foods that aren’t good for you out of the house can help you avoid eating them without thinking. And knowing that cravings will come and go can help you deal with them better.Just take a deep breath and distract yourself. The main thing to remember is that craving carbs is complicated. It’s about your body, your habits, and how you think.Eating fewer refined carbs and more whole foods, making sure you sleep well, and watching out for triggers can really help reduce cravings and make eating healthier feel more natural. It’s all about making small changes and understanding that getting over cravings is a journey. But in the end, it leads to a diet that makes you feel and look great!
