It’s not uncommon when someone starts our program one of the conditions they are medicated for is acid reflux/heartburn/GERD.
For many years, common treatment was to take an antacid and avoid acidic foods.
However, we now know that:
A) Doesn’t work to treat the problem
B) Is now potentially Cancerous
Let’s address ‘B’ first.
Ranitidine (Zantac) recall
The FDA was alerted in late 2019 to the issue, found what they called “extremely high levels” of the probable cancer-causing substance N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) in Ranitidine products.
After its own preliminary testing, the FDA has detected low levels of NDMA in Ranitidine.
As of now, the FDA has allowed Ranitidine to remain on the market.
Still, some manufacturers have issued voluntary recalls and some pharmacies have pulled it off the shelves.
My suggestion is to limit and avoid whenever possible.
However, if you are eating the right way, you’ll probably not need it and it doesn’t address the problem.
A) Doesn’t work to treat the problem:
The digestive tract can easily get inflamed on a typical American Diet.
Carbs, sugars, flours, and grains, can easily create inflammation and damage. Also, ‘leaky gut’ is a condition that can cause many digestive issues.
Further, carb (sugars) in your digestive tract can cause an extreme reaction in your body to ‘fight’ off the inflammation with an increase in acid.
And many times, it will present not just in the gut, but also as heartburn/acid reflux.
Four to six weeks (4 to 6)
It is usually the time that it takes someone to notice that acid is no longer a problem after they change their diet.
By eliminating:
- Breads, grains
- Starches, pasta
- Cereal, oatmeal
- Rice, juice
- Sweets, alcohols
- High GI fruits
The problem all but disappears.
Once it’s gone, the only time someone usually tells me they experienced heartburn, an upset stomach and a bad night sleep is when they have a CHEAT DAY!
Cleaning up your diet helps more than just:
- Fat weight loss
- Diabetes
- Heart Disease
- Stroke
- Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease
- Energy levels
If that’s not enough…it also cleanses the digestive tract and acid.
Most common benefits are:
- Being Healthy – (Reduce or eliminate medications if any)
- Having Energy – consistent throughout the day
- Having Strength – to do the work and activities you want
- High Self/Body Image – looking the way you want
- Feeling Good – feeling health and alive
Having these are the cornerstones to a great year and life…
